Taking projects
Mac, Windows and web apps · say it: an-VAYL

I build the thingspeople openevery day.

Anvael is Josh Canniff's studio. Mostly desktop and web apps, with the sites, brands and AI tools that grow up around them. I keep the client list short on purpose.

  • Cardstock's poster, drawn from the app's own styles rather than captured: its read of a sample Commander deck, short of 3 tutors, 3 protection and 3 ramp, and 2 more, beside that deck's workspace, with the name, its card mark and the line "Shuffle less. Brew more"

    Cardstock

Your Magic collection, priced and sorted offline, with a deck builder that starts from the cards you already own.

    Software · Live · 2026
  • Lighthouse's poster, drawn from the app's own colors and type rather than captured: West Point Light lit on a chart of home waters, the name with the line "Keeps your deadlines off the rocks", and the Today window for a demo practice

    Lighthouse

A Washington real estate practice's deals, notary signings and books, all in one quiet window.

    Software · Live · 2026
  • claude-mods' poster, drawn by the mod's own code with sample values rather than captured: the name above the usage cluster, five-hour usage at 92% until 5:42 PM, the week at 46%, about 8 turns left and 234k of context gone cold, over the line "The gauges Claude Code was missing"

    claude-mods

Usage meters and a sidebar of every session, bolted onto the Claude Code app.

    AI tooling · Live · 2026

    Vesper

A Mac browser that gives each part of your day its own space, and dims when the sun goes down.

    Software · Live · 2026
  • PathVault's poster, drawn from the app's own colors and type rather than captured: the 14 spell slots of Lyria Emberveil, a demo level 5 wizard, grouped by level above the name and the line "Less arithmetic, more adventure", with the app's Spells panel beside it

    PathVault

A Pathfinder character sheet that adds up every bonus, and shows its work when you ask.

In the workshop

  • Pulse's poster, drawn from the app's own boot animation and colors rather than captured: the day ring with each project on its hour, the starburst and name over Build, Verify, Land, the line "Know when it's your move", and the Home window on a demo day

    Pulse

Every project and AI session in one view, with only the calls that need you up front.

    AI tooling · In build · 2026
  • Buoy's poster, drawn rather than captured, with the panel rendered by the app's own code with sample values: open under a MacBook's notch with a made-up track playing, a session waiting on you and four more tiles, above the app icon's buoy, the name and the line "Bobs up when something needs you"

    Buoy

The MacBook's notch, put to work: your music, your timers and any AI session waiting on you.

    Software · In build · 2026
  • The dusk painting from Last Lantern's home page: a lamp lit at a house on the shore, with two peaks beyond

    Last LanternClient

A brand and website for a Pacific Northwest firm, from the first palette to the request form.

Forged, then unveiled.

About · Washington State

It usually starts with a grudge. Some app makes a simple job hard, so I build the one I wanted.

I'm Josh. My background is in people: managing teams, projects, products and the workforce around them. Design came first, though. I've been teaching myself graphic design for over 15 years, mostly in Adobe's apps, so every screen gets drawn before a line of code, and nothing ships looking like a default.

AI swings the hammer. I hold the tongs. I treat it as a worker, not a co-author, and it works under strict rules that keep it grounded, efficient and free of the usual AI tells. The design and the decisions stay mine.

Seeing an idea come out of the fire as something I use every day still gets me. That's the name, too. Anvael is an anvil and an unveil: hammer it until it holds, then pull the cloth off.
